Holidays Around The World

A holiday is a period set aside for public celebrations, usually by government or by tradition where work or school activities including work, school sports, etc are halted or reduced. In general, holidays are planned to let people to celebrate or commemorate a special occasion or religious or cultural importance. Holidays, different from ordinary periods of the year, are marked with more festive occasions and festivities. For the most part, though, holidays follow a particular theme, such as Christmas, New Year’s Eve, Valentine’s Day, Easter, Independence Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving, St. Patrick’s Day, and the like. However, the actual date of the holiday changes annually based on the calendar.

In the United Kingdom, there are many popular holidays around the world such as Christmas, Easter, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Christmas Island, theivities, thanksgiving, Saint Valentine’s Day and so forth. There are also several other lesser-known holidays such as Easter in Australia and New Zealand, which are celebrated differently. Many people choose to travel to their respective countries to celebrate these and other popular holidays in their own way. For instance, some choose to drive down to their country and enjoy the merry-making and family atmosphere that may be lacking on a holiday.

A public holiday is a public holiday that is not privately sponsored by a group or organization. Such public holidays include, but are not limited to, Veterans Day, Christmas, Good Friday, President’s Day, and so forth. Holiday decorations and other related paraphernalia for public holidays can be found in any price range, but can be expensive depending upon the location of the public holiday. There are many popular methods of celebrating such holidays in the United Kingdom, including traditional methods such as church parties and evening dinners, to the more modern ways of electronic greeting cards and email-based party systems.

A bank holiday may be interpreted as a time when an individual or family can take a short break from work and free themselves for a short period of time. This break could last anything between a couple of hours to a whole weekend, though longer breaks have been used to help employees cope with stress. In the United Kingdom, a bank holiday may be extended to certain days of the week. The extension may be on a Sunday, a Monday, a Wednesday, or a Thursday, or even all three days of the week, depending upon the laws of each state where the holiday is held. Most banks in the United Kingdom operate on a Sunday service, and extended bank holiday weekends are common for those in higher-rate areas, such as London.
